[k.harris jewelry] Not all those who wander are lost…

This week I had the privilege to model some exquisite jewelry pieces by Kate Furman of k.harris jewelry for her upcoming exhibition in Greenville, SC.  Even though the photoshoot got of to a rather interesting start (which included make-up being applied by Liz Love from Bo Stegall – The Salon on yours truly while sitting on the trunk of a car in a strip mall parking lot), we had a wonderful time with cheerful laugher between girls & stories never to be retold…  <3

A little about Kate:

In June 2012, she graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island with her Master of Fine Art in Jewelry + Metalsmithing. In December 2008, she received her Bachelor of Fine Art also in Jewelry and Metalworking from University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. (This girl has credentials!)

About k.harris jewelry:

Her pieces tell stories… They tell of storms weathered & turbulent whitewater navigated. She collects things while she is wandering in wilderness, seduced by the cast off flora generously littering the ground beneath her feet. They are scored with lines and scars depicting their histories and hinting to aspects of the primitive environment we deprive ourselves of. They are a part of the natural cycle, undisturbed and unprotected, and she aims to highlight their undulations and ornate subtleties. Each piece in her series evokes the place where it was found and what she was doing there. Their presence alone serves as a sketchbook, or journal, of where she has been and what she has seen.

During our shoot, I had the honor of modeling some of her newest woodwork pieces!  These works of art are already a hot item in New York City being purchased by some of the fashion world’s top trend-setters…  I can’t wait to see the shots taken by The Needed Image at the Defining She exhibit this Summer in Greenville (details below).

Defining She is a collection of artwork exploring the portrayal of women, by women. Featuring a variety of texture, technique & form presented by four Greenville artists: Emily Clarke, Kate Furman, Jessie Kendall, & Rachel Vann. Defining She opens at The Aristry Gallery, 12 Andrews Street in downtown Greenville. Join us First Friday, May 1, 2015—for new work, good friends, Delicias Don Vicente’s food truck, & the soulful sounds of DJ King Harold. The exhibition runs May 1 through the end of June.
